3rd Testicular Ball

Bristol’s Grand Thistle Hotel turned orange for the 3rd Testicular Ball. Hundreds of party goers enjoyed dinner, dancing, a silent auction and raffle to help raise money for It’s in the Bag who support men with testicular cancer in the south west and continue their work promoting awareness.

Last summer the team launched the KEEP CALM AND CHECK YOUR BALLS campaign in Bristol and the South West to promote their three aims: Raising Awareness, Raising Money and Supporting and Celebrating Survival. The Ball was a culmination of their hard work and a chance to celebrate a year of successful fundraising and dedicated to the life of Mike Collin who before his untimely death in 2011 raised a total of £6,100. Mike’s widow Katie, accompanied by his mum and dad, said
“I was anxious at first, but once I saw the brilliant work of the team and their high regard for Mike, I now want to take an active part in all things Orange!”

Dr Jeremy Braybrooke lead clinician for the testicular cancer service, arranged to have Medal Knitted Pants made for an award ceremony similar to the Olympics.

Sarah Talbot-Williams, Chief Executive of Above and Beyond said:
“What a night! It’s in the Bag did it again – they mixed fun, fundraising and raising awareness in an enjoyable and inspirational way. I was so glad to be a part of it. And it shows what people who are determined and committed can achieve!”

It’s in the Bag were also recently selected as finalists for the Quality in Care Awards in the category Cancer Charity Initiative of the Year Award for their work in supporting men with testicular cancer in the South West. The Awards will be presented at The Hilton Hotel, Liverpool on 6th November. One of the founder members of It’s in the Bag, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Sue Brand was also awarded an Above & Beyond Nursing and Midwifery Award for her work at Bristol’s Cancer hospital, The Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre and also runner up in the Pioneers in Care award.
