It’s in the Bag is a charity with a big personality and a serious purpose. We support men with testicular cancer across the South West, raise awareness of the disease and make sure the people who need us can find us. We do it with warmth, with humour and with absolute commitment to the men and families we are here for.
We are looking for three new trustees to join our board. We are looking for people who want to get stuck in, who care about what we do, and who have something genuine to bring.
We want a board that reflects the world we work in. That means different skills, different backgrounds and different perspectives around the table. If you have ever thought about trusteeship and wondered whether its for you, this is the right moment to find out.
Trustees are the people legally responsible for making sure a charity does what it says it will do, uses its money well and acts in the interests of the people it exists to serve. It sounds formal, and the legal bit is real, but in practice it is about being part of a team that cares about the same things.
At It’s in the Bag, trustees do not manage the day-to-day running of the charity.
What they do is ask the right questions, bring their experience to the table, help set the direction, and make sure the organisation is in good shape for the long term. And yes, they come to events and get involved — that is part of who we are.
No experience of trusteeship required. We will make sure you have everything you need to get started.
We need someone who can help the board understand our financial position clearly, ask the right questions of our accounts and budgets, and make sure we are using our resources as effectively as possible. This is not a bookkeeping role — we have operational support for day-to-day finances. What we need is a trustee who can provide genuine financial oversight and help us communicate our financial health in a way that everyone can understand.
You will likely have a background in finance, accountancy or financial management. More importantly, you will be able to make numbers make sense to people who are not finance specialists, and you will care about how the money we raise makes a difference.
We want a trustee who gets people. Someone who understands communities, knows how to build connections and can help make sure the board stays genuinely close to the people who make this charity what it is. This is not about
Marketing strategy — it is about human connection and community. We particularly want to hear from people with lived experience of testicular cancer or a close personal connection to the cause, those who are part of communities we are trying to reach better — including younger men and people across rural parts of the South West — and anyone who has brought people together around something they care about. A professional background in communications or marketing is welcome but it is not what this role is about. If you read the full profile and think that sounds like me, please get in touch.
Communications, Volunteer Engagement & Stakeholder Connection Trustee role profile
We are looking for a trustee with strong charity governance experience who can help us make sure we are doing things properly and doing them well. Not a compliance officer and not a lawyer — someone who understands the voluntary sector from the inside, knows what good governance looks like, and can provide practical, grounded guidance to the board.
If you have worked in charity leadership, as a trustee elsewhere, or in a governance advisory capacity, and you want to put that experience to good use for a cause worth fighting for, we would love to hear from you.
